Kimhēkim: Style brand criticised for using IV drips in runway show|The Independent

Style brand name Kimhēkim is facing backlash after using intravenous (IV) drip bags as devices for its recent runway show during Paris Style Week.

For the spring/summer 2020 program, the Paris-based brand name featured designs strolling the runway holding IV bags similar to those found in medical facilities and wearing plasters on their arms.

In pictures from the program, one model can be seen wearing a t-shirt that read “Sick” as she strolled the runway holding the IV.

On Instagram, where the designer shared videos from the show, in addition to an up-close photo of the Kimhēkim-branded IV bags, individuals have actually criticised the “tasteless” choice to utilize medical accessories and illness as a fashion declaration.

In addition to allegations of ableism, some stated that brand was acting insensitively towards people who struggle with diseases or impairments.

” What is this?? Being sick isn’t a fashion accessory,” one person commented.

Another stated: “This is NOT fashion. Being ill isn’t ‘stylish’ or ‘cool'”.

” This is a reprehensible concept and deeply insensitive to all those who have a hard time with illness,” someone else commented.

Others shared their own medical experiences in an effort to convey the issue with the brand name glamorising disease.

” As an individual with multiple persistent diseases, I am definitely appalled that you would do this,” a single person composed. “You’re absolutely missing the mark. I hope nobody supports this behaviour.”
